CAUSTIC SODA & SULFURIC ACID
Service in hot caustic soda or highly concentrated sulfuric acid requires not only permanently high chemical stability but also high reliability and strict safety standards.
The TÜV-certified plate heat exchangers of EKasic® silicon carbide withstand almost all acid and alkali mixtures, even at high process temperatures. The product chambers are separated by SiC ceramic heat-exchanger plates several millimeters thick. They not only ensure high operating pressures up to 16 bar, but also permit long-term stability even in the critical high-temperature range. That makes the units ideal for service in contact with caustic soda and sulfuric acid. Users of EKasic® plate heat exchangers experience a welcome increase in equipment lifetime.
Experience in the field of NaOH concentration plants has shown that SiC plate heat exchangers can help to save the regular 2-3 year replacement that is necessary with metal heat exchangers, and thereby reduce operating costs. Capital costs for recuperators based on SiC plate heat exchangers already pay off after the first replacement.
For highly concentrated sulfuric acid, only welded heat exchangers of high-alloy nickel or tantalum are usually used. Monolithic EKasic® plate heat exchangers of SiC ceramics offer a worthwhile alternative to noble metal units. ESK apparatus has a long and proven track record under harsh conditions, such as sulfuric acid processing.
