Intelligent ceramics in support of aluminium metallurgy - Energy losses minimised by ceramics
Aluminium melts are aggressive – they can adhere, attack mould walls and react. So solutions are needed to extend the life of any components that come in contact with the molten metal – be it as mould material, riser tube or thermocouple sheathing. Only a few materials can satisfy the requirements concerned, best of all ceramics. Specially for the aluminium sector the company ESK in Kempten has developed specific solutions based on boron nitride (BN) and titanium diboride.
