BORONID® BORON NITRIDE (BN) PROCESSING AIDS FOR GENERAL PLASTICS TECHNOLOGY
With BORONID® boron nitride, ESK offers an innovative processing aid for the plastics industry that can not only prevent melt fracture effects during extrusion of molten polymers, but also shift the critical maximum shear-rate at which surface melt fracture (“shark skin”) occurs towards higher shear rates.
Properties
With some polymer systems and at certain boron nitride concentrations, typically from 100 ppm to 1000 ppm, it is also possible to achieve a significant reduction in the internal pressure. Boron nitride is compatible with conventional olefinic polymers and tends to migrate to the polymer surface during processing, where it forms a lubricating layer, reducing friction between the polymer and screw, extruder wall or die.
