ESK Successfully Recertifies for the Automotive Industry
July 25, 2009

ESK Ceramics GmbH & Co. KG has successfully renewed the certification of its quality management system to ISO TS 16949 in the field of surface engineering. This ESK business division primarily produces high-friction coatings on materials for the automotive industry.

ELECTROLESS NICKEL COMPONENT COATINGS

ELECTROLESS NICKEL COMPONENT COATINGS

Electroless nickel coatings are used to protect metal components against wear and corrosion. Partial coatings can even be applied to selectively protect parts on the surface against wear and corrosion.

Superior Properties

In contrast to nickel electroplating, electroless nickel coatings are applied in a non-electrical process, in which a nickel phosphorus layer is deposited onto the surface. The coatings produced in this way are characterized by:

  • Good corrosion protection
  • Absolute contour accuracy
  • Tight tolerances

The coating is then heat treated to give the electroless nickel coating its ultimate hardness. It may reach 1100 HV, depending on the temperature and curing time.

Versatile Applications

Electroless nickel coatings with thicknesses up to 30 µm are ideal for finishings dimensional corrections. The coating greatly improves the service lives of parts that come into contact with corrosive or abrasive fluids.
